I don’t get it. Explain this another way.

Alright. There are lots of ways to explain what Christianity is about. Let’s look at some key things Christians believe.

God is holy.
When we say that God is holy it means that God is different. He’s transcendent. He’s completely pure. He stands for what is right. This is good. Can you imagine a god who was mean or evil? Because of who God is, everything in the world shouts his praise. The universe is on fire with the glory of God.

Humans are sinful.
Are you pure? Do you always do what is right? Do you even think about thanking God for putting you in this world? Here’s where the trouble starts. Would you feel confident to stand before the holy God?
A Hebrew prophet named Isaiah found himself in the presence of God once. He thought he was going to die. As bleach instantly erases the color in a piece of cloth, God’s holiness instantly erases every wrinkle of sin. If we were to stand before God with all our sin, God’s holiness would erase us. We would simply cease to exist.

God has opened the way to his presence through the death of his Son.
Because of his love for us, God took on a human body. This is called "incarnation", because God took on "carne", or flesh. Jesus was 100% God and 100% human. God sent Jesus because he loves us and he wanted us to be reunited with him. God’s people the Israelites offered sacrifices to take care of their sins. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, who cleanses our conscience and gives us confidence to stand before God. We don’t have to keep our distance from God, because our sins are forgiven. Jesus is holy, and he gives that holiness to us as a gift. Now we can come before God, see him in his holiness, experience his love, and give him the praise that he deserves.
